EPISODE 16

Tom Brook

Tom Brook – Goldbrook Gundogs

This week on At The Table with Baz, Baz sits down with Tom Brook, the man behind Goldbrook Gundogs, to talk about his passion for dogs, training, business and the journey that led him to where he is today.

Tom's story starts in an unexpected place - he admits he was actually terrified of dogs growing up.

It wasn't until his auntie's partner introduced him to gundogs that his whole perspective changed. From wanting a dog that could be both a working dog and a companion, Tom began searching for a training approach that felt right to him.

After initially working in engineering, Tom began training dogs at weekends and in his spare time. As the demand grew, so did his passion. Eventually, an unexpected job loss forced him to make a decision: return to engineering or take the opportunity to go all-in on dog training. He chose the latter and Goldbrook Gundogs was born.

Tom explains his philosophy around training and why obedience, consistency and building a bond with your dog are so important. He talks about keeping training sessions short and focused, finding your dog's weak spots and constantly working to improve them.

One of the highlights of the conversation is Tom's story about a spaniel he rescued from a poor environment. The dog was terrified and barely interacted with people, but after months of patience and training, a day on a shoot completely transformed him.

Tom also discusses why he believes dog training should be an experience, not something owners dread. His group sessions combine training with a social atmosphere, giving both dogs and their owners the chance to learn, enjoy themselves and meet like-minded people.

They also get into Tom's competition work, his different breeds of dogs, protection dogs, training in extreme heat, and why he believes you should always keep an open mind and never stop learning.

Ultimately, this is a conversation about dogs, dedication and doing something you genuinely love.

Dave shares his passion for Gainsborough, his pride in the town, and why he always tries to support local people and businesses wherever he can.

Alongside running Horsleys, Dave is also Chairman of Gainsborough Trinity Football Club, giving even more of his time to the local community and helping keep important parts of the town alive.

This episode is about loyalty, community, consistency, and caring about where you come from.

EPISODE 9

Craig Emmerson

In Episode Nine, Baz sits down with Craig Emmerson from Bassetlaw Pro-Clean.

Craig’s journey is one that a lot of people will relate to. Years spent working every hour under the sun, climbing the ladder, carrying responsibility, all while trying to balance family life around it.

Then came the decision that changed everything.

Craig opens up about walking away from a very good career to build something for himself. A business, and a life, that actually suited him and his family, rather than simply living for work.

We talk about mindset, consistency, and the idea of 1% marginal gains - the small improvements that eventually become something much bigger over time. There’s also a real focus on supporting local businesses, building relationships properly, and creating a reputation people trust.

This conversation isn’t about overnight success.

It’s about backing yourself.
About making difficult decisions.
And about building a life that works for you, not just your job title.

EPISODE 8

Margaret Pocklington

In Episode Eight, Baz sits down with Margaret Pocklington -born in Gainsborough in 1944, and someone who’s seen the town change in more ways than most.

Margaret takes us back to what working life in Gainsborough used to look like all those years ago, the pace, the people, and a real sense of community that shaped a generation.

We also talk about her incredible charity work supporting diabetes, the impact it’s had on so many lives, and the recognition she’s received along the way. It’s clear this hasn’t just been something she’s done, it’s something she’s truly cared about.

There’s a lovely thread through the conversation around family too, especially their connection to Marshall tractors - a big part of local history, and something that clearly means a lot to Margaret and her family.

But more than anything, this episode is a reflection on a life well lived.

82 years of stories.
Of change.
Of community.
And of quietly making a difference.

EPISODE 7

James Chantry

In Episode Seven, Baz sits down with James Chantry of Chantry Agricultural Engineers.

James’s story is one of pure graft. No big backing, no safety net , just a £600 van, nothing in the bank, and a decision to give it a go.

From those early days selling potatoes to kids at school, to building a respected agricultural engineering business with a fleet of vans and a serious workload, this is a journey built the hard way. Step by step. Job by job.

We talk about how it all started, the moments where things could have gone either way, and what it really takes to grow something from nothing. James shares the reality behind running a business... the long hours, the pressure, and the responsibility that comes with it.

There’s also a strong thread of local pride running through it all. Supporting farmers, keeping things moving, and being someone people can rely on when it matters most.

But more than anything, this conversation is about building something for yourself.

About backing your own ability.
About taking risks when it counts.
And about earning your reputation the right way.

(And Marshall Steam Rollers play a pretty big part too!)

EPISODE 6

Rico "Bon Bon" Franco

In Episode Six, Baz sits down with Ricardo Franco - BKFC champion and one of Gainsborough’s own.

Rico’s journey isn’t one that happened overnight. It’s built on years of graft, setbacks, discipline, and a mindset that refuses to break. From growing up in Gainsborough to stepping into the brutal world of bare knuckle fighting, this is a story of resilience in its rawest form.

We talk about where it all started, the reality of life behind the fighter, and what it truly takes to compete at that level, physically and mentally. Rico opens up about the sacrifices, the pressure, and the moments that shape you long before anyone’s watching.

(And how important his fuel is from our local bucthers, The Meatery!)

There’s also a real sense of pride in where he’s from. Gainsborough runs through everything he does, and you can feel that throughout this conversation.

This isn’t just about fighting.

It’s about discipline.

About mindset.
And about proving to yourself what you’re capable of, no matter where you start.

EPISODE 5

Thomas "Simply" Lovely

Episode Five

In this episode, Baz sits down with Thomas "Simply" Lovely, a local lad with a big dream, from Gainsborough , all the way to the professional world of darts.

They chat about how it all started, what it’s really like trying to break into the game, and the work that goes on behind the scenes that people don't see.

There’s a lot more to darts than just turning up and throwing, and Thomas gives a proper honest take on the pressure, the ups and downs, and how quickly things can change when you’re up there.

They also get into the buzz of playing, the pressure, and that feeling when things start to click.

But more than anything, this is just a conversation about backing yourself and giving something a proper go, and we hope everyone gets behind Thomas on his climb to the very top.

EPISODE 4

Maddison Leigh

In Episode Four, Baz sits down with Maddison Leigh - a medium and the person behind the Gainsborough Spiritual Centre.

The centre has quietly become a place where people come looking for something a little different. Sometimes that’s guidance. Sometimes it’s comfort. And sometimes it’s just a safe space to talk and feel understood.

We talk about what it means to work as a medium, and the responsibility that comes with helping people who are often going through difficult moments in their lives.

Of course, we couldn’t ignore the building itself either. The Spiritual Centre sits above an old beer cellar ,which, fittingly enough, has its own stories to tell. Maddison shares a few experiences from the basement that might make you look at the word spirits slightly differently.

But more than anything, this conversation is about people.

About creating a space where the community feels welcome.
About listening.
And about the quiet impact a place like this can have on those who walk through its doors.

EPISODE 3

Hayden Denman

In Episode Three, Baz sits down with Hayden Denman - the man behind Kixx Gainsborough.

Hayden’s story begins long before Kixx. At just 14 years old, he received news that could have shaped his life in very different ways. Instead, it became the turning point that defined his mindset, his direction, and ultimately, his purpose.

We talk about growing up locally, the influence of sport, and how early adversity can quietly build resilience. Hayden shares his journey into teaching, his passion for working with young people, and how that foundation led him to create something of his own.

Kixx Gainsborough wasn’t built overnight. It was built on belief. On values. On showing up consistently and creating something that genuinely makes a difference in children’s lives and in the wider community.

This is a conversation about perspective.
About responsibility.
About turning difficult moments into meaningful direction.

And about building something you can be proud of.

EPISODE 2

Robynne Casswell

In Episode Two, Baz sits down with Robynne Caswell.

Robynne lives on a farm, runs a Gainsborough business networking group, produces George’s Honey, and is someone who genuinely believes in backing local people.

We talk about being in and around farming life and how that shapes your outlook. We touch on her path into law - not the detail, but the journey. And we spend time on what really matters to her now: bringing business owners together, supporting others properly, and creating things with meaning behind them.

There’s honesty in this one.
There’s perspective.
And there’s a real conversation about responsibility - to your work, your town, and the people around you.

EPISODE 1

Farmer Craig Williamson

Baz sits down with local farmer Craig Williamson of Williamson’s Farm Shop - a proper family run business that supplies local produce and proudly backs British farming, it's the root of everything they do.

Craig talks about how his farming life started, how the farm shop grew into what it is today, and why keeping it authentic inside the old barn has always mattered.

They chat about family life on the farm ,everyone mucking in, the community work Craig quietly gets involved in, and the moment he unexpectedly found himself nominated for (and winning) a Citizen of the Year award.

It’s honest, down to earth, a good crack and even emotional.

A real conversation about farming, family, responsibility and doing things properly.
