More Than Just A Podcast
I’ve been thinking for a while that I wanted somewhere to write a few things down alongside the podcast.
At The Table with Baz started because I enjoy talking to people and hearing the stories behind what they do, but there was another reason too. I wanted to shine a light on Gainsborough and some of the amazing people within it.
I think our town is sometimes too easily overlooked, and yet there are so many interesting people, businesses and stories here. People who have built something from nothing, people doing great things in the community, people involved in sport, farming, food and business, and plenty of others whose stories probably deserve to be heard a little more.
That was a big part of why I started the podcast in the first place.
Since then, I’ve realised there are so many conversations, thoughts and stories that don’t always fit neatly into a podcast episode, and that is really where this blog comes in.
I wanted somewhere I could write about the things I find interesting, whether that is something happening locally, a person I think deserves a bit of recognition, something I have learned through running my own businesses, or simply a subject that has made me stop and think.
I definitely won’t be pretending to have all the answers. Anyone who runs a business will know that some days you feel like you have things under control and other days you wonder what on earth you are doing.
That is probably the side of business I find most interesting.
There is plenty online about success, growth and how well everything is going, but the reality is usually a lot more complicated than that. There are good decisions, bad decisions, things that work, things that don’t and plenty you only learn by getting it wrong first.
Food will probably feature quite a bit too. Most of my working life revolves around it in one way or another, so I’m naturally interested in butchery, restaurants, local produce and British farming.
But I think Gainsborough and the people within it will always be a big part of this.
The podcast has already introduced me to people I might never otherwise have met, and it has reminded me just how many good stories there are right on our doorstep.
I don’t have a strict plan for the blog, and I don’t particularly want one.
Some posts might be about business, some about food, some about the podcast and some about something completely different. There will probably be the occasional opinion and, you never know, maybe the odd rant as well.
More than anything, I just want it to be somewhere I can share things I genuinely find interesting, give a bit more attention to the people and stories around us, and hopefully give people another reason to feel proud of Gainsborough.
